SOUTHERN REGION SQUASH ARCHIVE FILE - YEAR 1989 JUNIOR SQUASH Southern Region Squash has always promoted a strong team spirit and coaching camps have been something to which the kids have always looked forward. Clinics had been held in the past in Toowoomba with kids coming from all sections of the region. Kids made lifetime friendships and many still look back on the fun times. Even when our world ranked players return from overseas and see a team mate there’s laughter about the fun times. The region fielded a very strong team in 1989, even allowing one of our QLD ranked players to play for Brisbane. The team camp was held in Stanthorpe as Mal Perry was based there and was now running the coaching for the region, taking over from Robyn Prentice who was in Canada. The Under 13 team and the Under 15 team won the QLD Team Titles that year. Accommodation was at Griffith University along with the other regions and Mal Perry and Shirley Hardke took over as Coach and Manager. The Venue was QE11 Squash Courts and so a short walk down the hill from the University Campus was all that was needed Trophies were in abundance for the team in those days.
