NOTICE TO ALL SOUTHERN REGION PLAYERS |
|
|
From the Committee of Southern RegionThe Committee of Southern Region would like to inform all players and parents of what has occurred over the last week and inform you of the reasons why certain decisions have been made.
The Committee has decided to withdraw the Southern Region Junior Storm Team from the 2010 Teams Event at the QJC in Rockhampton as there were not enough players attending. The main reason for this is that we simply do not have enough players. On top of this is the fact that at least 5 of our existing players may not compete in the teams event so that total number is depleted even more. Some of our more advanced players are directing their tournament play towards professional events to improve their PSA or WISPA rankings.
This decision made by the committee of Southern Region was not taken lightly. We are a very proud region and have had our share of success over the years. Under the present situation in Southern Region this was considered the best option.
Our major selection event was postponed earlier this month purely because of a distinct lack of numbers. This is the compulsory tournament from which we establish our age champions for 2010. We do not have to have this event now or before the QJC. Our intention is to find our 2010 champions at a tournament (yet to be decided on) before the end of 2010.
Kim Schramm at Q Squash was advised of our decision officially by the Southern Region Secretary on an email on the 13th May. Kim Schramm’s answer was to draft a lengthy communication to all players, parents and officials without any consultation with the committee of Southern Region.
Southern Region was in the process of communicating to all players and parents regarding this decision. Southern Region was not aware of Kim’s intentions to email his appeal to players and officials. Unfortunately this was before Southern Region had a chance to correspond with players and parents.
Southern Region would like to apologise to all players, parents and officials who read Kim Schramm’s email before being advised by Southern Region personally. Southern Region did not want this to happen in this manner.
Southern Region do not have any intentions of “folding” and have a contingency plan to make Southern stronger for the year 2011. When time permits Southern Region management is intending to address our problems and will start the process of developing a strategy that should improve our standing for the future.
Southern Region has always encouraged all junior and senior squash players in our region to become members of Q Squash through their particular squash club.
Southern Region players are still competing in the Individual Age Group Events.
By the time of this letter all of Southern Region players and parents will have been advised of the accommodation situation for the duration of the individual event.
It appears that Q Squash has decided to form a composite team. Southern Region does not have a problem with that. In fact whilst strongly advising players to become part of that team we are not enforcing participation.
What the Southern Region committee does not like is the fact that the 4 page message from Kim Schramm tends to make the committee look incompetent. He does say that it “is nobody’s fault” but it certainly seems to take aim at the Southern Region committee.
It infers to a reader that the Southern Region team needs help with accommodation. We do not need help with accommodation as we have had accommodation organised since the end of the 2009 QJC. Of course now that we have withdrawn our team the same accommodation is available to all Southern Region players for the individuals.
With regard to the financial status of Southern Region, there is no problem. Our region holds strong.
Our main objection now is that we believe that the composite team cannot be called Southern Region as it will not be a Southern Region team. Once again we are proud of our region and we do not believe anyone else has a right to use our name. If this team goes ahead and it should then we would like it to be called anything except the Southern Storm team.
